Web Site DesignThere are three basic types of Web sites: Standard Brochure Web sites, Ecommerce Web sites and Dynamic Web sites. What follows is a brief explanation of each of these types of Web sites. Standard Brochure – A standard brochure Web site is really just a means of communicating information to the visitor. Many businesses display information about their business, what products or services they offer, and how they might be reached. This is different than actually selling products or services directly through the Web site. E-commerce – Unlike standard brochure Web sites, Ecommerce Web sites are specifically designed to sell products or services directly through the Web site. Some businesses will use an Ecommerce Web site to sell their products in addition to their normal storefront. Others elect to sell their products exclusively using an Ecommerce Web site. An Ecommerce Web site is a type of Dynamic Web site since it interfaces with a database. Dynamic – A Dynamic Web site is a Web site that does something more than just sit there and display information. Dynamic Web sites allow people to interact with the site, such as building a model of a home using various designs, or posting pictures onto a site, or selling products. Any time you have a username and password in which you can access certain portions of a Web site there is a good chance that it is a Dynamic Web site.
